Lauri Kilusk

25 years of experience as a ceramicist has given me good manual skills for playing and working in a fairly wide spectrum, varying in style, medium, material and size. The greatest pleasure and satisfaction has been in making large sculptural works for various interiors. I have done many different commissioned works for Estonian museums and other public spaces. Alongside this, I have always enjoyed making simpler consumer ceramics, which I introduce here at the TEKE gallery. When it comes to consumer items, well-thought-out proportions and user comfort come first.

I prefer a minimalist line in my visuals, my objects are often monochromatic or with little decoration. In addition to traditional working methods such as potter's wheel turning, more innovative methods have also appeared. In connection with my work at the Estonian Academy of Arts, a clay 3D printer has become my daily companion. Digital methods (scanning, 3D modeling, parametric design and the use of virtual reality) have become an everyday reality in today's material culture. I have developed myself a lot in this direction and I also share my knowledge with students.

I graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a degree in ceramics and currently work there as a lecturer and workshop manager. I am a member of the Union of Ceramists and Artists, and I am a member of the Asuurkeraamika Studio.
